12.30.11 The scariest, yet most exciting, and hopefully rewarding, art project I've yet to take on : )

Ok, so it's not quite 2012 yet, but i want all my mural pictures to fall in the same album...so I've changed the rules a bit : P!!

This is day 1 of my 30' by 5' mural I am working on. It is my first time ever doing anything so large scale, and my first time painting (other than a doodle here or there). I'd tell you what it is going to be...but where is the fun in that!!

Today I learned that priming a wall seemed easy enough, HOWEVER, it is physically exhausting, and I had no idea it would take 2 coats!!

I also learned to mark things off with pencil, and not pen...oops.

Many thanks to Stu, and the FIOS team at work, for your help in teaching me some painting skills on your lunch break. Would have been lost without you guys!

Day two of mural will be drawing my design, hopefully starting Tuesday, January 3rd!

26 Day Challenge

An everyday struggling artists dream...someone willing to take a chance on me...and pay me for my art. Yes I have been selling art on and off for years now, but portraits for pocket change...this is the opportunity to sell my first painting, for a real Company, willing to pay and display!

The Commission:
By May 11th, present a 5 X 3 foot acrylic painting of my works old site we just moved from for an open house set on said day. Supplies paid for up front, a verbal agreement to purchase painting for any price I quote (within reason)

The Reward:
Money, the potential opportunity to commission paintings throughout the entire site. A jump start to the millions of projects I have been putting aside seeing "no point" and greatest of all: Pride and honour of great achievement.

The Problem:
It is less then 4 weeks away, and I have never produced a completed painting or any commission of such size, nonetheless a landscape. I cannot paint, I haven't yet perfected my ability. I am fighting my own lack of motivation, laziness and self discipline, that I am aware will be a constant battle under such a small time frame. Every aspect of this project is brand new and challenging to me.

The Ray of Hope:
I have never wanted anything so badly, I have an incredible ability to focus and learn when necessary, and, I still have 3 weeks to get 'er done!

Today, I got home from work and ripped out my paints and some canvass to see where my ability lays at:

Oh fuck. I am doomed. I am already trying to think how I can draw it on a 5 X 3 foot piece of paper. I am so comfortable with a pencil in my hand, this paint brush is awkward, tough to use and paint is soooooo blendy it doesn't give me what I want!

List of things to do IMMEDIATELY!
Google painting techniques, practice practice practice
Accept that I may just do it as a pencil or ink (possibly charcoal?) drawing...look into how logical that is with the size requirement
Take source pictures of old site before they demo it to create landscape view for painting
Research supply costs and get them to the Site Director so I can order them and start working this out!!!

Fate or stupidity. I still can not decide. I have yet again followed my impulsive instincts, and on my way to sign a 12 month lease for an affordable 2 bedroom apartment located centrally downtown St. Catharines, (and practically across from work!!) I faltered and out of curiosity (for the only reason I can justify) went 30 minutes out of my way to check out a small bachelor apartment in the neighboring ghost town I grew up in.

It was hard not to instantly fall in love with it's charm, and such a great price, the owner throwing more and more bills in for free as I zoned out and weighed the options, all of a sudden the inconvenient location and size was no longer an issue and I handed over a deposit. A place to my own. And it's NICE! And CHEAP!

There is something absolutely heart dropping sad that washes over someone when they go to move and there is someone still living there. No boxes in sight, just the empty promises that it will work out from the landlord. So many thoughts rushed through my head...was I scammed? Where will I live now? What if I can't find a place? Can I get my money back? Am I being crazy, maybe it will work out?

After stopping by through out the day, and eventually heading into the job and attempting to "work" I finally heard back from my landlord....there had been a mishap with dates and though I couldn't move into my apartment for yet a month, the airy 2 bedroom apartment in the front of the building with dreamy french windows was available until then.

It was such a great place to stay, like being on holiday. The perfect transitional space. I was able to have a friend in between places stay with me, we had enough space to throw a kick ass party for another friend, and I was given a place to breathe and think and spend time weeding through "stuff" that had been in storage for years.

I have been since dreaming of getting Boredom Pulled the Trigger back up, and have just now set up the scanner! Hopefully soon I will be abandoning BPT for good and replacing it with something else, but till then, I'm Back!

My lovely friend Andie sent this picture my way today, a portrait of her from the past when we ruled the days and nights with our crazy good fun. I love this girl more then anything because she brings out the creative power in everyone she is with, I can't remember one normal minute with this girl, but at the same time I can't remember one minute where I was bored or unhappy. This Sunday is Andie's birthday, marking yet another year of a girl who no matter what she's been through maintains a not only positive outlook but is constantly looking for a soloution to change her circumstances. i have a lot of time to kill on mondays so i thought i would try and do an ink sketch of the parking lot looking out onto the student res...it turned out a little more complex and scrambled looking then i'd hope but it reminds me of the works of stephen wiltshire...not that i could ever compare my work to his but check him out, he is a phenomanal artist and if u have yet heard about him make sure to read his biography too (its on the website) because his story is incredible.

Hey guys!!! It's officially one year since i started this wretched comic blog, and as you can see I am back, hopefully for more years to come!! Unfortunately do to my lack of computer expertise and impulsive personality I royally messed up www.boredompulledthetrigger.com and will no longer be updating that site, basically because, well, I cant anymore. But it works out well because it just complicated things not only for my art but for my life as well, it was too much for my ego to take and was too stressful to take on, so instead I revert back to what I am, a student and ... just a girl, looking to express herself and not make a career out of it. Talk about naivety. Well I have a new computer now...it's been months waiting since I blew my last one up, and I do not have very good editing software, if you know of anything that's free...and virus free, send a link my way!!

Today has been a seriously busy day and if it weren't for the excitement of having gone a year since starting BPT I don't think I could have mustered a moment to draw something up for today! But...I managed in every spare moment I got...hence the confusing layout and inconsistent doodles. As soon as you are done reading this it is best to assume I am well passed out with an empty beer still in my hand from pure exhaustion, but before I do...

A year ago today I was lost. Dealing with the first real heart break I have ever known and settling back into a city I grew up in after spending years trying to break free and escape to Alberta (in many unsuccessful attempts) I can now look back and see how much has changed, after going through several jobs and soul searching for future goals, I now find myself in a busy life attending school full time, and working at a job I finally enjoy, (even though its a call centre still!!) I have lost friends, and gained friends, and kept the ones worth keeping who continue to love and support me...and call me out on my bs! I have found peace with the past and out of it has come a truly surprising gift of a friendship that has surpassed any expectations and continues to enrich my day to day life. I have watched my family grow and have gotten to know them on a different level, as people, not just the support system they always have been. And of course the constant pondering of spirituality and trying to find out what to make of this world, especially from how far my family has come from the church we grew up in.

There are so many things that have happened this last year, and I assure you though many of it has been good I still happen to be a clumsy and tactless gal who stumbles into irony and problems and has a lot yet to learn, so thank you to anyone who has taken interest, or anyone who just appreciates the art and the work that goes into sharing that with you. You, as always have the ability to make others feel not so alone in such a lonely world, and I hope you continue to check back for the following years.

heeeeello everyone, so much has gone on this weekend, but havent had the time or tolerance to sit down and draw much, on friday i went to lunch at sheehans with my friend pam, and it was delicious, we then went with all of our coworkers to stellas for a drink to kickstart the long weekend, it was really nice, on saturday i mosied around town shopping for art supplies, and then went skating with alicia and mike...they are amazingly good, being an ex-figure skater and hockey player i was quite proud to be on the ice with them, especially greatful as they helped to reteach me how to skate, i am still like bambi on ice, but hopefully will catch on soon!! satarday evening was very nice meeting up with the old crew and taking on our old scene for a night, altho sunday had a rough start with all of us waking up on my floor...spent some time with andie and then my mom later on, then it was my bed. lots of time with my bed. have been very sick since i quit smoking, my lungs are cleaning out 8 years of 'ick' but i am looking forward to feeling more energised and healthier.

as you can see i am experimenting with some new drawing materials in preperation for launching the new site!! lemme no any feedback on what you like/dont like!

hey guys,

without my partner in crime (and gossip!) here today, work is drudging by so i thought i would share some st. catharines news.

before i share the goods, do you remember my post of the kind young gentlemen who stole a car...? during our banter, he had told me was staying at the leonard hotel while awaiting trial. There was a stabbing there on friday night (could explain the abundance cop cars mikey and i saw on our way downtown to meet friends!). The victims name was not disclosed, but lets all hope the poor guy is ok, people make mistakes! and being stuck in st catharines is punishment enough (especially with one of the worst unemployment rates in canada!!!!)
no one needs to get cut man.

in other news...fire is bad. haha. a police cruiser was doing his job driving around and saw smoke billowing into the sky, as he approached it, he saw the back of the house house was engulfed in fire! being the brave soul he was, he knocked on the door to make sure no one was home, and found the door answered by an elderly lady, completely surprised by the officer informing her the house was on fire!! (damn interuptions to evening television programming!) and her poor husband taking a nap...thankfully they got out just in time as the fire spread to the rest of the house! what a random coincidence...

this is a good one....some 19 year old kid was peddling illegal firearms and sold a gun to a guy in st kitts...who 4 days later accidentally shot himself....hahahaha. and i thought i was clumsy!! woops jail time for you!

this seems like the perfect time to share a funny story my mom and i came into while travelling bc and alaska one summer...we were picking up some booze from one of the fine (non government regulated!) bc shops, the police were there, taking statements from some employees, when we asked what happened the cashier began laughing..."well we were robbed" my mom and i were taken a back with concern, "oh don't worry" she continued, "they stole a 2-4 of beer and ran out which isnt really a big deal to us..." "the real kicker was when they came back today to return the empties" hahaha, silly westies

i hope wherever you are your monday as is lovely as mine! the sun is shining, the air is crisp, and roll up the rim returned to tim hortons! (altho thanks to auto-pilot kathy i keep tossing my cups away before remembering to rrrrrrrrrrroll up the rrrrrrrrrim,
